RE: District Governor report, District 23B

District 23B is coming off of a very successful year, one which saw our first net growth in membership in some time. A new club was chartered in Thomaston, and net membership as of June 30 ended at plus 24.  I would like to thank Immediate Past District Governor Len Johnson for his successful stewardship of District 23B.  With 52 clubs and over 2000 members, we are well positioned for an outstanding 2009-2010.

At the International Convention in Minneapolis, I submitted a membership growth goal of plus 65.  Our MERL team, led by 1st Vice District Governor Sia Dowlatshahi, will be up to this challenge.

Our District Leadership Chairman, PDG Alan Daninhirsch, ran a well attended Club Officer and Cabinet Officer training session on August 15th.  Our Cabinet Chairmen are energized, and ready to accomplish the objectives put before them.  Our Zone Chairmen, under the leadership of 2nd Vice District Governor Bob Cormier, have been educated on the Global Membership concept, and will work with the District Officers and MERL team to implement the Quality Club Initiative.  I am confident they will do great things for our District this year.

Next week, 10 Lions from 23B will participate in a 3 day Multiple District Extension Blitz, with the goal of chartering a new Lions club.  These Lions, in addition to those who participated in an Extension Workshop last year, will use the lessons learned in these workshops to assist our District Membership Chair, who I have charged with rebuilding membership in struggling clubs.

This month we are rolling out a District website, to better facilitate the flow of information to our members.  Feel free to check it out – www.lions23b.org

I cannot overlook the fantastic job our Lions clubs do to further the goals of our organization.  Several clubs will be participating in two STRIDES walks this month, for the benefit of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  We have three local ambulance services that are run by Lions clubs.  And at last count, 23B has 27 Leos clubs, with more on the horizon.

To the Lions of New England – have fun, and have a Great Year!

Respectfully Submitted,

Dave Yadach

District Governor, 23B

Fellow lions

The Lions of District 23C are taking a ride, a ride on a roller coaster to be precise.  The safety bar has been lowered and we have officially pulled away from the platform. Our ride has some ups and downs and some unexpected twists and turns, but I fully expect that we will have a ride of a life time.  We began our lion’s year with training seminars for our Region chairs, zone chairs and cabinet chairs. We also held our first MERL meeting and outlined our goals for the year. I have set our goals high, very high, shooting for the stars, hoping to land at least on the moon.  Having charged our leaders with their responsibilities and duties, we set off to charge up the lions of the district with a district rally on August 22. The rally energized and educated us, it motivated and moved us. Last year the lions of District 23C raised over $266,000,volunteered over 17, 000 hours and helped an estimated 15,000 people in our communities.  The hard work and efforts of our lions supported projects like LCIF, CLERF, Fidelco, Diabetes, Hearing and Speech, Camp Rising Sun, and the Low Vision Center of Eastern Connecticut. We gave sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, food to the hungry, homes to the homeless, we gave hope to the hopeless. We made a difference.

Our membership is currently at 1980 hard working lions, I believe we can grow to 2100 lions, maybe more. We currently have 54 great lions clubs. I believe we can add three more clubs. We average a loss of 200 lions per year. I believe we can cut that number in half. We have great future leaders with our 1st VDG Denise Dudek and our 2nd VDG Ken Tucker, and our leadership beyond them looks very bright and promising.  I want to thank IPDG CC Armand Lafleur for his dedication and service to our lions of district 23C. His leadership proved to be inspirational and successful. Our district is stronger because of his service to our district as District Governor.

Our clubs have had a busy summer with fairs, craft shows, horse shows, chicken barbeques and various other fundraisers. None of our clubs have past due balances to LCI over 90 days and we are nearly current on monthly membership reports as well.  I have begun my official club visitations and I have been welcomed into each club with warmth and respect. T he fellowship I am experiencing is a true joy.  Our immediate future is busy with an extension workshop scheduled for September 20, 2009. District 23C will participate with fellow lions from Districts 23A and 23B for a Connecticut blitz hosted by Lions Club International.  The extension workshop will teach us how to start new clubs, recruit new members, and also provide certification training for Guiding Lions.

I want to take this opportunity to thank my brother governors, District Governor Mark Lyon and District Governor Dave Yadach. We have become true friends and we have truly erased the imaginary borders which separated our districts. We are all lions, we are all on this ride together, on the same track, heading in the same direction. Let’s enjoy the ride and continue to serve together, knowing that we serve better together.

Respectfully submitted,

Lion Keith Lemire

District Governor 23C

New England Lions Council Report -- September 12, 2009

Being sworn in at the International Convention in Minneapolis as District Governor

for 33Y,  I hope that I can begin my term to assist and help in the leadership of  my

District  and to all its members in this upcoming year.

I have my new Cabinet in place and we are getting off to a great start with a “plus”

in District membership this year.  I also have the GMT team ready to come into the

District sometime in October and hope to obtain some of my membership goals

I have set for this year, and also to start a new club.

Along with my CST Todd Cromack,  we have our District directories all printed and

ready to pass out at my first Advisory meeting on September 14th in Northampton.

I have already been invited to Club openings and have started Club visitations

                        for this year.

I believe we have a great Council under the leadership of CC Sharon Brooks.  We

will keep moving in the right direction and make it the great Multiple District that it can

                        be.

In closing, I would like to thank my VDG’s for the hard work and dedication that they

have given me so far this year, and to the membership of 33Y, thank you for the

support and confidence you have intrusted in me.

                        Respectfully submitted,

                        Roger Jones, DG 33Y

To the NELC,

I am pleased to report that the Lions of Massachusetts 33A are looking forward to a productive year - following an award winning year in 2008-2009.  Our IPDG Don Bourque was given the "FOUNDERS MEMBERSHIP GROWTH AWARD" from Past International President, Albert F. Brandel. The District had a 2% increase in membership under IPDG Don's Leadership this past year.

We are currently working in the Douglas/Uxbridge area to form a new club – and have explored a Campus Club at Clarke University in Worcester.

We have welcomed 13 new lions to date – with a loss of 24 and we morn the loss of three lions including PDG Malcolm Kleinknecht – for a total of minus 14.  I am aware of a number of clubs who will be bringing in new lions at their September meetings and anticipate a plus in membership in the very near future.    I thank the council for their support and the PID’s for their guidance.

Yours in Lionism,

      Jeannette

New England Lions Council Report – September 12, 2009

May I first offer congratulations to our new International Director Ron Johnson and sincere thanks to now PID Ed Lecius on a productive two year run on the International Board.

After an incredible experience at the International Convention, which brought home the international flavor of LCI, and buoyed by the enthusiasm of the lions of 33-K, I am energized to start what I believe will be a banner year for our district.  You should definitely check with me again in say February, to see if I am still energized.

I have instituted some changes that will improve our district and I am confident that these concepts will prove valuable and be carried forward long after my term as District Governor ends.  Among them are:

A, Succession – Rather that have the District Governor act as a lone entity, with officers and a cabinet that report to him or her, I have changed the paradigm by utilizing a team approach to the governing of the district.  Under this concept the District Governor, Vice district governor, CST and Vice CST all lead as a team.  I have included these folks in every major decision to this point.  In addition the traditional duties of the DG will be parsed among this group.  This accomplishes two major objectives I have 1. It prepares those who will follow me to be better prepared and 2. It improves upon the concept of delegation that I believe has been lacking.  I am proud to say that 1st Vice DG Joyce Hogan, CST, Matthew Richardson and Vice CST, Tom Kerr have all embraced this new paradigm with the enthusiasm that I anticipated.  The concept of “we Serve too”  will ensure that not only the needs and wants of the cabinet will be considered, but also those of the clubs in our district.

B.  Membership – Using the membership plan developed at DGE School as a guide to our membership goals, the importance of the concept of quality membership and quality clubs has been presented to the Region & zone chairs as well as the MERL team.  In addition many of the region & zone chairs have been trained in the certified Guiding Lion course given by the GMT last spring.  This training will enable them to participate in strengthening some of the weaker clubs as well as providing assistance in extension.  Although the July numbers are not what I’d like, I do not believe they represent what will be the trend in our district as we turn negatives into positives.  We are instituting a systematic exit interview program wherein the zone chairs will ensure that each and every member who is dropped for voluntary reasons will be interviewed as to why with suggestions to either fix the issue or propose transfer to another club.  On a sad note, I have found it necessary to recommend Status Quo for two clubs that have been languishing for too many years.  Despite several attempt to turn them around, it seems that the majority of the members are just not interested.  Several have expressed an interest in other clubs and we are facilitating that.  I do not want this negative to be permitted to continue to another administration and in one of the communities, we will make a concerted effort to bring in members to preserve a charter that dates back to 1941.

C.  District Programs -  We have put on a full court press to get clubs involved in the Peace Poster and Youth Speech contests.  We view these programs to be opportunities to involve more youth, but also to expose their parents to the benefits of Lionism.  In addition, I want to se an increase in the participation of LEOs in district affairs and have conducted brain-storming sessions to find the best method  to achieve this goal.

We have set out aggressive yet achievable goals for this lionistic year, but I am confident that with the team I have in place we will meet or exceed our expectations.

Thank you for the opportunity to report to our colleagues throughout New England.

Yours in Lionism

Ned Merrick

District Governor, 33-K

To my fellow members of the New England Council:

District 33-S is off to a good start this year.  We have had a voting Cabinet meeting and planning session, and our first advisory meeting with 47 out of 55 clubs attending.  Our MERLO Team under 1st VDG Joyce Middleton has had their first planning session.

All clubs have been scheduled for a visitation by either me or by 1st VDG Joyce.  2nd VDG Steve Raposa has been given the task of overseeing our Youth Speech program and has also been assigned to oversee some of our weaker clubs with the goal of increasing their memberships.

Our membership numbers are down by 25 at the moment. One club dropped nine and another dropped 5 but they are hard at work making those numbers up.  We have started a new membership recognition program called the 2-fer program whereas a club will receive an award be replacing any dropped member with two new members or by bringing in one new member if there are no drops.

We have two new clubs in the organizational stages right now. Hopefully, paperwork for those clubs will be in to International by the end of October.  We have one additional club planned for later in the year.

Yours is Lionism

Ray Hebert

District Governor 33-S Massachusetts

District 44-H

It’s been a rough start with membership at 1127 and down to 38 clubs.

The MERL team has been working diligently.    The Lions of District 44-H will be working together to bring our District to where we have been in the past.   We have a Membership Workshop scheduled for September 30th.   The Zone Chairman’s have scheduled a member of the MERL team to speak at their first Zone Meeting.   The Lions of 44-H will be working towards bringing membership up to 1250 and we hope to charter at least one new club.    Ten district Lions attended the International Convention and 4 will attend the USA/Canada Forum.

Respectfully,

DG Celeste Ricupero
